Recruitment Focus

I have started considering a slight adjustment to the guild’s recruitment techniques. Our recruitment efforts have been very fruitful in pulling in plenty of new people from around the server and also from other servers as they have noticed what we are trying to do here is valuable to a player who cares about what type of guild they are involved with.

The recruitment staff are tasked with bringing the right types of people to the guild while ensuring that they know what to expect on arrival. When we launched our recruitment drive on our arrival in Ragnaros, I advocated a /tradespam approach coupled with regular official forum posts and plenty social interaction with the community on the server in our more traditional, hands-on approach.

Tradechat spamming was always a rough tool that provided a quick fix to address our drop in active members to ensure people joining were entering an active /gchat and not some backwater guild where nobody logs in.

Blizzard forum posts allow us to be noticed 24/7 by people who care enough about the game to actually trawl the forums. The acquisitions from the forum are generally people who we will be delighted to accept since the hard working attitude of actually actively seeking the right community is something I regard highly and is also a diminishing example among the game’s changing player base.

Hands-on social interaction is by far and away my favourite style of recruitment. Meeting someone out in the world and getting to have a chat about whatever is going on, making friends and then posing the question along the lines of guilds and how you would like to see your new friend join you and become a Dambuster. That’s the way I started this guild and its how I built it full of good people who were socially interactive and mannerly around their guild mates and others on the server.

Our chief recruiter Debbs is excellent at this type of recruiting and it’s a skill worth promoting. In the next few days I will be curtailing all /tradechat macro recruitment posts and encouraging more social interaction around the server whilst leaving Debbs to do his part on the Blizzard forum as usual.

Trade chat recruiting is crude and only serves a short term purpose, we are bigger and better than that. The raid team will still be pugging players on the public channels but since we now require applications and are getting quality applicants, I no longer see the need to tell the server’s underworld that just anyone can get into our community by filling out an application which they may see on /tradechat.

I am fully aware that this change will make the recruiters’ jobs more difficult but to be fair, making up a spammable macro and hitting a button each time you are in a city ain’t exactly difficult, so you guys will have to do a bit more. To offset that, I am looking into adding another assistant to join the recently promoted Feralbust. Recruitment boss Debbs and I will be in discussion about who to approach for that position.

Remember that this is not an easy task and that these guys need all our help! Social interaction is something we are known for as a guild so feel free to help your guild. Be an ambassador of friendly social interaction and send any interested potential recruits to the recruitment staff or the guild website application form.
