Dambusters Recruitment

The guild has always been proud of our recruitment policy whereby we are happy to welcome anyone but we always try to ensure not just anyone finds their way into the guild.

We have a community that deserves to be maintained and enhanced by our new recruits as opposed to being diluted by an otherwise careless or thoughtless recruitment strategy. If we were to mass recruit and accept any old Tom, Dick or Harry into the guild by means such as spamming /tradechat or insta-inviting any newly created lvl 1 toon on the server then we might well pick up some little gems…but we would also be picking up plenty of shit in the process. Shit dilutes gems and I don’t like my gems to be surrounded with shit.

When we first changed server from Xavius to Ragnaros back in March, there was a necessity to fill up the roster because although the majority of our active memberbase moved with us, most only originally moved 1 character, or created a character on the new server so some had remaining ties back in Xavius which meant the first week or 2 left us with only the really hardcore Dambusters. We had to recruit and boy did we recruit like legends! Thanks to Debbs and the team, we rapidly filled out the numbers and we were able to then revert to my favoured approach of more careful filtering.

We have high standards here whether you see them or not. If someone in the guild behaves like a brat, they will face scrutiny and adjustment or be removed. We may have harboured our share of baddies over the years due to times of needed number boosting but in theory, we surely cleared any unwantables out due to natural wastage and good roster management. People who enter this guild in the first place have to be on good behaviour or they are quickly flagged and closely watched. All new entrants are on trial until such a time where I myself find them worthy of that ‘Corporal’ rank increase.

Our preferred methods of recruiting are by getting applications from players who do the right things from the outset, such as:-

  • Trawling the forums for the right type of guild for them and finding our recruitment post (posted by Debbs) to be of interest to them.
  • Being recommended for the guild by current members who know the applicant and the way the guild operates.
  • Making friends with a current Dambuster, thus proving socially mature and a potentially valuable addition to our community based guild.
  • Finding our guild by internet browser search engine and applying with a good, solid application.
  • ….which brings me onto the standard prerequisite for any budding new Dambuster, the application. The app has evolved greatly from a very short, fun 5 questions requiring only short answers which prove nothing more than that you have accessed the guild website. It has evolved to the current format where we require much more depth and thought to the answers and will likely continue changing as our recruitment strategy changes over time. It is likely that those of us already in the guild are the lucky ones who didn’t have to go through any rigorous examination as we might possibly see one day. Maybe even Mumble interviews could be called for, just maybe, but not yet.

Those days are a while away but as you can see, I take very seriously the way we recruit so that we can ensure only the right type of person enters our little empire. You can be sure that the guild roster is under constant scrutiny as I watch and listen to the community closely. Any bad apples who make it onto these airwaves will not last long so your community will remain safe and free from predators. Our guild have always valued the presence of both halves of the gender divide and we will ensure that policy remains. I believe there were at least 2 female charter signatures on the list of 10 founder members of the guild and we also welcome more mature minded and polite youngsters here. The guild atmosphere must allow these players the freedom to be able to fully immerse themselves within our accepting community while also being a haven for the lads to express themselves with a certain comfort while showing restraint when required.

You guys have given me real cause to believe we do it right here and I will be making sure we do not slip our standards. I intend to tighten my grip on our standards of recruitment in the coming weeks and months. With Debbs back working hard, Devilslotus and Wenya in fine support as well as Spyrot all casting an eye over incoming applications, our vision is to make sure the right people continue to be able to find us and gain entry to the home we have made. Of course, I read every application and if needed, I dispense my opinions to my recruitment team while encouraging them to carry out their business with minimal input from myself.

It’s easy to see why we have gone to such lengths….making extensive forum posts, creating worthy application forms for the website, getting out there and chatting in groups etc. because the recruitment and constant roster management really is maintenance of the lifeblood of The Dambusters. It’s precisely this attention that generates our collective group of friends who keep us logging into the game time after time. We will not rest on this, this job is never done while there are good Dambusters out there waiting to be found and given their place in their rightful guild.

It’s everyone’s job in this guild to be out there, showing the Dambusters spirit that we all love, being a shining star in that pug run, helping out a fellow Alliance member under pressure from a gank-happy horde, proving there is a guild of actual friends who enjoy their gaming. These are the ways to find potential recruits and if they ask, tell them about the guild, link the website for them to come and see what we are all about!
